Willkommen!
In the 1850s a group of German immigrants settled in a lush river valley in
east-central Iowa. They called their new home "Amana" after a passage in the
Song of Solomon meaning "to remain faithful." They established seven villages
known as the Amana Colonies and lived communally, embracing a pure and simple
way of life...including pride in workmanship, a home in the heartland, and
sharing good food with good friends.
The tradition of the Amana Meat Shop & Smokehouse began during communal times,
when families enjoyed meals together in roomy kitchen houses. Each village had a
meat shop and smokehouse where ham, bacon, and sausage were cured the old-world
way...with long-held recipes and a commitment to quality.
Today the tradition continues. Each year thousands of visitors stop by our
smokehouse and take home the bountiful flavors of another century, while others
experience life's simple pleasures through our mail-order catalog. We invite you
to savor these old-fashioned tastes and to share them with friends, family,
neighbors, and coworkers. Enjoy.
If you are planning a trip to Amana, please stop in and visit us at the Amana Meat Shop & Smokehouse.
We are located at 4513 F Street in the village of Amana (one block north of the Ox Yoke Inn).
Our retail salesroom hours are Monday through Friday 10am-5pm, Saturday 9am-5pm, and Sunday 10am-4pm.
